POÁS VOLCANO – DOKA COFFEE PLANTATION – LA PAZ WATERFALL GARDENS

Visit one of the biggest active volcanoes on earth, an award-winning coffee plantation and the largest butterfly observatory in the world!

This fun-filled tour is packed with attractions and three different adventures.

The trip takes us through the city of Alajuela, passing by the Agriculture Monument, Juan Santamaria Monument honoring the folk hero of that name, and famous Mango Park, a favorite of Costa Ricans and visitors alike.

Climbing to higher and higher elevations, near the Poás Volcano we’ll notice a change in temperature and vegetation, with coffee plantations and fern, flower and strawberry farms creating a beautiful array of colors and textures.

On the way to the volcano we stop for breakfast at Doka Coffee Estate and then tour a working coffee plantation to find out about time-honored techniques used by experts to produce some of the best coffee in Costa Rica and around the world. You’ll get a hands-on experience of the meticulous process of cultivating, harvesting and roasting the “Golden Bean” before enjoying the wonderful aroma and taste of the end product.

Afterwards, we continue to Poás Volcano to admire the impressive main crater with its sulfur fumaroles, and learn about the different ecosystems in this unique national park.

Then we’re off to La Paz Waterfall Garden for a delectable lunch, trail walk to a spectacular waterfall in the middle of the rainforest, and visit to the hummingbird gallery, serpentarium, bird house, butterfly garden and frog exhibit- not to mention wild felines rescued by the park.
